What We Are All About
_
The aim of the Ipplepen Carnival is to raise money for local causes whilst having as much fun as possible.
The Carnival in its present form started soon after the Second World War and revolved around the construction of a "float" which competed with other floats both within the village and at neighbouring carnivals for the coveted "Best Float" award. This was a matter of village pride and involved many villagers.
The accolade of Carnival Queen was traditionally bestowed on the women/girl/young lady who sold the most raffle tickets and to this day forms an integral part of the Carnival.
In 2008 an almost newly elected committee was formed with members aged between 20 - 60 combining their talents and experience. This year’s programme reflects this with events tailored to appeal to all ages.
Carnival week for those involved in its smooth running is a frenetic but ultimately rewarding week which requires a lot of hard work.
Currently there are 20 committee members who give up their time to organise and stage the Carnival.
We desperately need more volunteers that are willing to help out during Carnival week. 40 active volunteers giving up 1 to 2 hours each of their time as opposed to 10 volunteers giving up 5-6 hours each of their time during the Carnival week is what we would like to achieve.
This is still a "True Community Event" and when most village Carnivals are sadly passing into history, we need you to 'VOLUNTEER' and ensure that the Ipplepen Carnival tradition continues for many years to come.If you can help out during this year’s Carnival then please get in touch with us via the contacts page.
